About

I am originally from Costa Rica, where I began my studies at the Universidad de Costa Rica. I received degrees in English Literature (B.A.) and Spanish Literature (M.A.) from the University of California, San Diego, and Latin American Literature (Ph.D.) from the University of California, Irvine. At UCSD I was fortunate to study with Ron Berman (Hemingway, Fitzgerald and Modernism), Carlos Blanco Aguinaga (Fuentes and Rulfo), Jaime Concha (Chilean literature) and Max Parra (Mexican literature). At UCI I worked with Lucia Guerra Cunningham, Juan Bruce Novoa, Juan Villegas, Seymour Menton and Maria Herrera Sobek.

My fields of interest are gender studies (masculinity), Latin American narrative and theater, American Modernism and nation building discourses.
