Lawrence N. Stout

Lawrence Neff Stout, Professor of Mathematics, was an admired teacher, scholar, colleague and mentor. His research focused on category theory, fuzzy logic, other non-classical logics, and in the philosophy of mathematics. He earned his A.B. from the University of Chicago in 1970 and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1974. In 2011, he received the second annual James Dougan Award for Faculty Governance in recognition of his dedication to service. The Lawrence Neff Stout Scholarship for Excellence in Mathematics has been established to honor his memory. He will be greatly missed by his students, faculty colleagues and friends in the community.
